Donna visits the Peninsula

Janny's mom visited Korea last week. We had a great time. It was so fun to see her. We got to show her all our favorite restaurants and sites. Donna is a great explorer as well. Everyday she would come home with some great story about who she had meet and what she had done. Donna loved Korea and Korea loved Donna. Here's some highlights:She's here!
We prepared her a Korean care package equipped with a Dust Storm protection mask, travel books, and maps.
Donna prepares for her first bite of Kimchi- it's a big moment in anybody's life.
I'm not kidding Donna made friends everywhere she went- instantly. These ladies saw us in a parking lot, gave us candy and tissues, and then started hugging Donna. Our friend Curtis is in the background giggling.

Donna strategically placing a coin on this rock for good luck.

Yeah for updating the BLOG! Looks like Donna had a blast. Wish we could come visit. For some reason yesterday at Saturday morning breakfast we all just missed janny and Ryan so much. It was so good to chat the other day.
love you!

Greetings from the co-star,

Just wanted to take a minute to encourage family and friends of Janny and Ryan to visit them in Korea, if at all possible. I had a ball! J & R are wonderful hosts and they will take you under their wing, pointing out neighborhood landmarks and the finer points of the subway system. They are natural teachers and you will soon feel confident to explore on your own during their work week.

The Koreans, too, are warm and incredibly helpful. I wish I could tell you my stories (but this isn't my blog)! I would, however, like to give you some advice. Fly all the way to Daegu. It would be cheaper than landing in the I-airport outside of Seoul and taking the buses, trains, and probably hotels needed to make those connections. Besides, there's more than enough sightseeing for a week in Daegu! Best of all, you'll have more time to spend with Janny and Ryan!

Instead of being a total tourist, one of my favorite parts of the trip was living like the Koreans. J & R bought not one, but two padded mats, so you will be comfortable on the floor in your very own room. You might enjoy the fried eggs and "seasoned laver" (sea weed) that has become their breakfast habit. For a week, I'm betting you will be tickled by the unenclosed shower and special shoes. I also want to add that, after hanging a few clothes on their rooftop and being reminded of my own childhood memories of line-dried, fresh smelling clothes, I plan to add a clothesline to our yard. Food could have been challenging on my own; but J & R have done the exploring and know where to go for food that is both interesting AND delicious. They'll also take you to Starbucks!

I loved both Buddha temples I visited. Hopefully you will soon see pictures of J & R at the beautiful and peaceful Daegu Arboretum. Perhaps you'd get lucky and meet the same docent (I prefer to think Confucian monk) at the Confucian academy I visited right across the road from the Inheung village. The markets, the people, the transportation, etc. provide lots to see and do while you wait for Ryan and Janny.

Go see the Kielys while they're in Korea!

Hey Janny and Ryan!

I'm so sorry for taking so long to get on-board with the blogging action. Your adventure to date looks amazing (but I'm still months behind in gotting caught-up on all of it). I'm jealous that mom was able to see the two of you in Korea. I'm hoping to try to visit the two of you after the bar exam -- maybe sometime in August! In the mean time, I plan to make more frequent visits to your website!

Love always,
B
